£20K solar power for schools award
Barclaycard’s Breathe play a role
The UK schools to receive free solar power through Solar4Schools and Barclaycard Breathe have been named. The schools benefiting from a £20,000 renewable energy system are Backwell School, Bristol; Collis Primary School, Surrey; Compton Church Of England Primary School, Plymouth; Finchley Catholic High School, London; Worle Community School, Weston-super-Mare. Solar4Schools is an initiative from UK solar energy company Solarcentury, with profit donations from Barclaycard Breathe, a new credit card to help consumers play their part in the fight against climate change.
Over 100 schools entered the popular draw for a free system via solar4schools.co.uk Following their application, schools were checked for their suitability, including roof size and energy efficiency. The schools were chosen by random selection by independent members of the Solarcentury team. Those five schools are awaiting a final structural survey before installation begins. Schools will also benefit from the Solar4Schools teach packs, display units and other educational resources.
Amer Sajed, managing director of Barclaycard UK says: “We are delighted that these schools will now benefit from solar power through Barclaycard Breathe. We recognise there is a growing demand for products that promote greener spending and which help to tackle climate change. ”
Jeremy Leggett, Solarcentury’s chief executrive says: “We are delighted with this new impetus for the Solar4Schools programme. We have already had hundreds of enquiries for the funding available, however, the new support from Barclaycard Breathe will ensure that more schools are able to meet the fund requirements more quickly. Access to this silent, clean, sustainable energy is easy, meanwhile it is a crucial vehicle for educating young people on the benefits of solar PV-generated electricity.”
