Secrets in Your Food
August 29th, 2007
Even if some Americans are getting wiser about genetically modified (GM) foods, they’re
certainly having a tougher time avoiding them at their neighborhood grocery store. An amazing 75 percent of all processed foods manufactured in America have ingredients originating from GM crops.
Perhaps, the task of choosing between “Frankenstein” foods and safer ones would be an easier one if food companies were compelled to label their tainted products properly, something most Americans want. Doing so, however, may scare some consumers away from processed foods, something the grocery industry and the federal government wants to avoid at all costs.
A list of quick tips to help you steer clear of GM products for good:
- Examine produce stickers on the fruits and vegetables you buy.
- Buy organic produce as often as you can.
- Don’t be concerned whole foods are more expensive than processed foods, because they aren’t.
- Stay away from processed foods.
